Soil Water Dynamics and Cotton Production Following Cover Crop Use in a Semi-Arid Ecoregion

چکیده
Conservation management practices such as no-tillage and cover crops can decrease soil’s susceptibility to wind erosion, but adoption of these has been limited on the Texas High Plains (THP) where producers are concerned with crop water usage. The objective this study was evaluate impact cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) lint yield soil content in a deficit irrigated cropping system. Soil observed bi-weekly long-term, continuous systems established 1998 that included (1) conventional tillage, winter fallow, (2) rye (Secale cereale cover, (3) mixed species located Lamesa, TX, USA. Results include observations from 2018–2020 (years 21–23 period). conservation did not significantly reduce compared conventionally tilled, fallow cotton. initially depleted greater throughout growing season following termination. Throughout profile, depletion recharge were more dynamic tilled control. There no differences use efficiency between treatments. indicate usage is likely cause decline semi-arid production

Conservation Tillage and Cover Crop Influences on Cotton Production on a Southeastern U.S. Coastal Plain Soil
Understanding cover crop and tillage system interactions within specific environments can help maximize productivity and economic returns of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) produced on sandy coastal plain soils of the southeastern USA. A strip-plot design with three replications was used to evaluate the cover crops Austrian winter pea [Pisum sativum L. ssp. arvense (L.)], balansa clover (Trifoli...

متن کاملSoil organic carbon dynamics and crop yield for different crop rotations in a degraded ferruginous tropical soil in a semi-arid region: a simulation approach
In recent years, simulation models have been used as a complementary tool for research and for quantifying soil carbon sequestration under widely varying conditions. This has improved the understanding and prediction of soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics and crop yield responses to soil and climate conditions and crop management scenarios. The goal of the present study was to estimate the chang...
متن کاملForecasting Crop Water Requirement By Et-Hs model For Arid and Semi Arid Region of Iran
Estimating actual crop water requirement and irrigation schedule are essential for designing of the irrigation systems, storage construction and water conveyance structures. Many models have developed for estimating crop water requirement. Although most of these methods need different climatic parameters, providing and forecasting all of these parameters always are not available. Most of the ti...
